Reading, Abbey Ruins Re-opening.

Join Earl Rivers Regiment, part of the Sealed Knot, and the help to mark the re-opening of the Abbey Ruins. See a living history encampment, watch drills and displays, see the musketeers firing their weapons and watch military courts.  If you live in Reading you’ll already know that the Abbey was demolished on the orders of Henry VIII during the Reformation.  What is less well-known is that much of what was left was used by soldiers of King Charles I to build fortifications during the Siege of Reading by the Roundheads in April 1643, during the Civil War. Open to the public from 11am to 5pm.
