SUMMARY:Reading\, Abbey Ruins Re-opening.
DESCRIPTION:Join Earl Rivers Regiment\, part of the Sealed Knot\, and the help to mark the re-opening of the Abbey Ruins. See a living history encampment\, watch drills and displays\, see the musketeers firing their weapons and watch military courts.  If you live in Reading you’ll already know that the Abbey was demolished on the orders of Henry VIII during the Reformation.  What is less well-known is that much of what was left was used by soldiers of King Charles I to build fortifications during the Siege of Reading by the Roundheads in April 1643\, during the Civil War. Open to the public from 11am to 5pm.

SUMMARY:Peterborough Heritage Festival
DESCRIPTION:A small Regimental event being organised by Pickerings who have supported the Heritage Event in the past. \nThis year the Organisng Officer reports: \n  \n‘Parliamentarian soldiers\, camped in the grounds of Peterborough Cathedral following their taking of the the town in April 1643\, have been left unsupervised by their Officers. \nAlready they have caused significant damage to parts of the building\, breaking windows\, defacing the alter and carvings inside the main Church building. The medieval library was burned on a bonfire. Now these Godly soldiers have been given a list of known Royalists who fled the town before their assault and may have returned. Let the hunt begin!’ \nSo beware\, anything could happen.

SUMMARY:Huntingdon History Day
DESCRIPTION:Oliver Cromwell\, love him or loathe him\, that will be discussed when Pickerings Regiment of the Sealed Knot Society support the Huntingdon History Day. \nFrom the Organising Officer: \n‘Following the ransacking of the town by the vengeful Royalist Army retreating from its defeat at Naseby\, a small Parliamentarian force is sent to pick up the pieces and hear petitions from the local population wanting explanation and possible compensation. The town’s own MP Oliver Cromwell had headed west with the Army of Parliament to engage the Kings forces around Bristol. Did he make a mistake and why did forsake his own?’ \n  \nDo you have an opinion on Oliver Cromwell\, then come along and discuss it with our Members but remember\, Pickerings Regiment support the Parliament Army.
