SUMMARY:The Trial Of Charles I\, Huntingdon
DESCRIPTION:Huntingdon Town Hall\, 53 High Street\, Huntingdon\, PE29 3AQ \nPerformances are at 10.30am\, 12noon\, 2.30pm and 4pm. The performances last just over an hour each. When this was held in 2019\, the performances all sold out – book early to avoid disappointment! \nBook tickets here \nStep back to 1649 when England put its own king on trial for his life! \nOrganised by The Cromwell Museum and Colonel John Pickering’s Regiment of Foote of the Sealed Knot\, dramatised performances recreating the tumultuous events of the trial of King Charles I in January 1649 are be held in the atmospheric surroundings of one of the historic courtrooms in Huntingdon Town Hall. \nWorking with members of the Sealed Knot\, and using original trial records from the Parliamentary Archives\, the Museum has produced an edited and dramatised version of the trial\, which will be recreated with all the key figures including King Charles I and Oliver Cromwell being played by amateur actors. \nThe trial is an immersive experience – so whilst there is a narrator who will introduce and interject into the performance\, there will be members of the cast interspersed with the audience\, who will heckle the trial and cause some disturbance\, as the audience at the real trial did\, so be warned!

SUMMARY:Huntingdon March & Cromwell Museum Re-opening
DESCRIPTION:Members of the Sealed Knot will be marching from the neighbouring town of Godmanchester\, over the main 14th Century Old Bridge\, down Huntingdon High Street\, and finish in the market square in front of the museum. \nThe parade will begin at Bridge Place (PE29 2AB) at 1.30pm and arrive in Huntingdon in time for the Opening Ceremony\, attended by dignitaries\, at 2pm. \nThis unique event\, staged by Colonel John Pickering’s Regiment of Foote\, celebrates the grand reopening of the Cromwell Museum \nAfter the ceremony\, the museum will then be open for the public and there will be further historical cameos in the afternoon. \nClosed since October 2019\, the Cromwell Museum is dedicated to explaining and understanding this pivotal and controversial figure in British history\, and work on the new state-of-the-art facility is nearing completion in the former Huntingdon Grammar School building\, which was where Oliver Cromwell was educated as a schoolboy. \nIf you really want to immerse yourself in the civil war history visit Huntingdon Castle hill in the town. The castle itself was demolished back in the medieval period\, but the site was used as artillery battery to control the crossing over the Great River Ouse. Huntingdon was a Parliament stronghold although it was briefly occupied and plundered by Royalist forces following their defeat at the battle of Naseby in 1645. Charles I set up court at the George Inn. \nFor more information about the museum and its £160\,000 refurbishment.
