DESCRIPTION:This is a free event! \nCannon will roar and history will come alive as the English Civil Wars return to Chadderton! \nStep back in time and straight into the conflict between Royalist and Parliamentarian\, as the grounds of Foxdenton Hall play host to the Sealed Knot reenactment society for a FREE weekend event. \nImmerse yourself in the past as you step into a military encampment in the grounds\, hosted by the Earl of Manchester’s Regiment of Foote and their friends from The Sealed Knot\, open from 10am until 4pm on the Saturday and Sunday. \nWhether you’re looking for a fun day out for the family or you’re into history\, you’ll be enthralled by displays and demonstrations  of life in the 17th Century. From cooking\, gambling\, leather-working\, wood-working and much more to sword-fighting and gambling\, there’s plenty for people of all ages to learn about. \nThen watch as Cavalier and Roundhead battle for control of the hall\, as swords clash\, drums sound\, and muskets fire! Whether you’re cheering for the forces of King Charles or for those of Parliament\, it promises to be a thrilling weekend of history\, learning\, and fun! \nFoxdenton Hall sits on the foundations of a previous hall built in 1620 for William Ratclyffe\, who — along with his eldest son Robert — fought and died at the Battle of Edgehill in 1642. Ratclyffe’s third son\, also called William\, inherited the estate and also fought for the King; he was knighted on the field at the Battle of Lostwithiel in Cornwall in 1644\, and became a Colonel under Lord Hopton. However\, after the defeat of the Royalist cause the family was nearly ruined by fines imposed on the estate by Parliament. This free weekend event is being staged as part of Chadderton Together’s work to restore the Grade II* listed hall and its grounds. \nOpening Times \n\nSaturday 18th July & Sunday 19th July\n10am – 4pm
