Grimsthorpe Castle

June 18, 2023

Colonel John Pickerings Regiment of Foote invites you to Grimsthorpe Castle, park and gardens to step back in to the 17th century and witness how the castle may have looked at the height off the English Civil War.  Meet the soldiers who fought on the side of Parliament as well as their adversaries the Royalists, see how the soldiers lived whilst on the march, what they ate and the skilled craftsmen and woman who followed the army in our living history area on the North Drive.

Our arena on the south lawn to the rear of the castle will hold host to 2 displays at 12.00 and 14.30 where the soldiers will display the weapons used at the time and let you experience the noise and smoke of musket fire as well as formidable sight of Pikemen advancing towards you with their 18 foot long pikes.  Here the soldiers will be trained in how to fire weapons and use their swords.

Back in camp you can dress as a solider and handle weapons from the time and feel what it was like to be a solider in the ECW.

The Castle has been visited by Kings, Prince & Princesses and nobles for hundreds of years From Henry VIII through to our King Charles III and Queen Camila.  Keep an eye out for King Charles 1st who will be visiting to inspect the castle and the soldiers.
