St Neot’s Living History Festival

July 6, 2019

In the early hours of 9th July 1648 the Royalist forces under the Earl of Holland are taken by surprise by troops commanded by Parliamentarian Colonel Scrope, having taken refuge in the town of St Neots. Hollands force were on the run having been heavily defeated at St Albans and were looking at regrouping and possibly consolidating their precarious position.

After a viscous fight on the town Bridge the remainder of Hollands forces that had not fled ended up barricading themselves into a local Inn and then surrendered.

Colonel John Pickering’s Regiment and other members of the Sealed Knot will provide a Living History Camp, displays and skirmish in St Neot’s Town Square to give an idea of what it might have been like on that fateful day.
