The Siege of Crowland Abbey 1643

We are reenacting the Siege of Crowland 1643, which was a confused affair… It started with the kidnapping of a preacher from Spalding, developed into a skirmish between Spalding [Parliament] and Crowland [Royalist] Militias, and the whole sorry business was only settled when Oliver Cromwell arrived with his, and two other infantry regiments. It’s a great story, and it is told over two days through the town and in the Abbey Grounds, with marches, skirmishes, musket, pike, and cannons, with a spectacular night fight and a huge firework display on Saturday night!

Admissions are £5 for the weekend and under 16’s go free. Wristbands are available in the abbey with further details available at
