Battle of Stow on the Wold 21st March 1646
Memorial Parade and Service
2026 is the 280th Anniversary of the Battle of Stow on the Wold, which saw the defeat of the last Royalist field Army, commanded by Sir Jacob Astley, by Parliamentary forces under the Command of John Birch, Thomas Morgan and Sir William Brereton.
To commemorate the occasion The Yeoman of the Knot in collaboration with the Stow Civic Society have organised a parade and service on Sat. 21st March 2026.
The parade will be through the town Square at Stow to St. Edwards Church where a Service will be held at the memorial stone in the churchyard, after which we will move into the church to lay a wreath on the memorial to Captain Hastings Keyte, a Royalist who fell at the battle.
In the afternoon there will be a Battlefield walk lead by the Battlefields Trust which people can join if they wish. The walk is free, but the Trust ask that people make a donation if they can.
