Thirlestane Castle, Lauder, Berwickshire

June 24, 2017 - June 25, 2017

The Sealed Knot bring do you an insight into Scotlands part in the ‘Wars of the Three Kingdoms’, when father fought son, brother fought brother and the entire nation was in turmoil.

While the war began as a conflict between King Charles I and his Parliament, it quickly spilled into the remaining kingdoms of Scotland and Ireland. Initially a Covenanter, James Graham, Marquis of Montrose subsequently became the Lieutenant General in Scotland for the King in 1644.

Montrose raised his army amongst the Highland clans, a feat that would have seemed almost impossible to many at the time. The clans had never been known to come together and fight for a unified cause but Montrose played on their hatred of the Campbells who fought for Parliament, to rally his troops.

Montrose became a formiable force in Scotland.  Let the members of the Seald Knot show you the life and times of the period in the Living History Camp and perhaps a skirmish may erupt within the beautiful settings of the Castle Grounds.
